There are plenty of indie rock bands withmusictokeep an eye on (as well as listen to)this year. The genre is alwaysgrowing wider with more promising new(er) talent to enjoy, all of whom are looking to make their star shine even brighter (by methodslike performing iconic tributesor throughthe delivery of entirely unlikely hits).
Despite the younger brand of artists looking to make their mark, that doesn’t mean the veteran set of indie rockers can be forgotten about either. Especially after the popular, much-hyped frontwoman of an English indie rock band behind five largely acclaimed studio albums (might) be teasing thatanother effort is on the way for the pleasure of our listening ears.
Florence Welch Posted A Social Media Video Of Her Digging A Hole And Screaming
Florence Welch is the major centerpiece/lead vocalist that frontsFlorence + The Machine, an indie rock groupformed out of London, England, back in 2007. Beginning with their first single, “Kiss With A Fist”, in 2008, the band has been a regular presence on the charts ever since (concluding with their latest LP,Dance Fever, in 2022).
Since that period, both Welch and the group have been mostly quiet (minus a few scattered collaborations with Taylor Swift and The Weeknd). However, recently, a strange video posted by Welch on her Instagram account has gotten fans and followers buzzing about the possibility thata new album rollout may be on the horizon.
The IG post, which depicts Welch in a red dress, fervently digging a hole in the ground before passionately screaming into it, might ordinarily be worrisome. But when looking deeper into her Instagram posts(much like a Swift Easter egg), there’s a scattering of something significant that’s forming.
This Isn’t The Only Cryptic Clue Posted By The Band’s Frontwoman
After posting a video on Instagram back in May singing a fragment of theDance Fevertrack “Girls Against God” to celebrate the record’s third anniversary, Welch was dormant for a time. Until July 3rd, when a post entitled “Toil and trouble” hinted at October being potentially important, along with apparent studio notes/pics, as well as something more.
In the IG post prior to the hole-digging video (entitled “Drink Deep”), several more images (and a studio video of harmonies being recorded) appear. The most arguably intriguing item is a picture of possible lyrics hinting at the hole-digging to come. Among them,“thrust my fists in the ground, and the earth made a moaning sound.”
F+TM’s Website Has Also Undergone A Mysterious Revamp
The website forFlorence + The Machinehas also changed recently, leading to rings that look like moon phases swirling over a photo of a rustic area before settling into a mysterious, runic-looking letter shape. Nothing on it is interactive or clickable as of this writing, butmight that be about to change due to a forthcoming new music announcement?
While nothing has yet been officially confirmed by Florence, the band, or their management, it feels like the “Dog Days Are Over” for Florence fans waiting for her next creative update. It seems to be more a matter of when, not if, at this stage.
