Star Warsfans were already saying that Marvel’sRise of Skywalkercomic has added tangible weight and depth to the film, which, for many, left a lot to be desired. The most striking addition to the movie’s story, by far, comes at the moment of Palpatine’s defeat inThe Rise of Skywalker Adaptation#5; whenDarth Sidious sneers “I am all the Sith,“Rey calmly replies “and I am all the Jedi,” and she is illustrated with an ethereal army ofthe franchise’s most famous Force-usersto prove her claim.

In a gorgeous double-page spread, Rey is joined by her mentor Luke Skywalker, and his father Anakin Skywalker, and his mentors Obi-Wan and Yoda, and along with them come some of themost recognizable Jedi inStar Warscanon, including: Aayla Secura, Qui-Gon Jinn, Mace Windu, Plo Koon, Ki-Adi-Mundi, Kit Fisto, and more. Rey Channeling The Greatest Jedi In History Elevates The Story Of “Rise Of Skywalker”

How Marvel’s Comic Adaptation Elevates Episode IX

With the combined powers of the greatest Jedi ever at her back,Rey puts an end to Palpatine for good. It is an impressive elaboration on what fans already know from watchingThe Rise of Skywalker, and in that way, it speaks to the heart of whatStar Warsfans love about the Expanded Universe. The Rise of Skywalker Adaptation#5 literally expands the scope of the story, which is noteworthy considering how massive the movie’s climax already was, but it stands out because it does so with the emotional dimension of the story, as much as its mythology.

That is, the comic’s version of the story’s climax arguablyearns Rey’s victory more than the film does, given that it fully embraces the idea that she is the apex of the Jedi Order’s long legacy. This idea was implicit in her role intheStar WarsSequel Trilogy, but it was not embraced by every fan of the franchise, in part because it didn’t feel entirely justified by the Sequels' story arc. Overall,The Rise of Skywalker Adaptationworks diligently to correct this, and Rey channeling the entirety of the Order in the final issue is a dramatic pinnacle.
