SinceBaldur’s Gate 3was released, players have speculated on the potential of certain characters returning in a sequel. It feels unlikely that fan favorites like Astarion and Gale won’t at least be referenced in some way due to their popularity and possible extended lifespans.
However, there’s one group of NPCs that stands out as the perfect choice to return to in the recently confirmedBaldur’s Gate 4. Unlike many established characters whose stories would be harder to revisit without dividing opinion, these characters will be almost impossible to get wrong.
The Tiefling Children Should Return In BG4
Arabella And Mol Already Have Strong Companion Potential
The tiefling children have completely stolen the hearts ofBaldur’s Gate 3playerswith their mischievous antics, and they would be the perfectcharacters to cameo inBG4. Whether they stick to their roots and form a crime syndicate or end up somewhere entirely different, there are so many ways they could fit into a brand-new story.
The obvious faces players would want to see return are Arabella and Mol.Arabella’s story is left open-ended, but we know that she went away to study The Weave with Elminster. Withers seems to imply that we’ll see her again one day, which seems like the perfect set-up for a future companion.
Mol could return as a rogue - or even a warlock, if she ends up finding another patron. It would be fitting to see her as the next Nine Fingers, or forming another criminal organization entirely on her own.
She may even have the potential to return as an antagonist, given the morally dubious nature of her schemes. An adult Mol could cause much more carnage.
Since we meet the tiefling kids so early in their lives, the nextstudio to pick up theBaldur’s Gateseriescould easily take their stories in new directions without breaking immersion or making them feel like different people, especially if there’s a significant time skip.
BG4 Could Expand Past The Obvious Choices
The Other Tiefling Children Are Almost Blank Slates
Beyond the two popular choices, I think thatthe other tiefling children could also make for some interesting companions later down the line, and are often ignored by fans when it comes to discussions like this.
Having Doni play a major part in the plot as a mute character could make for a unique personal story, especially if the new studio doesn’t attempt to rid him of his mutism in any way.
It would be equally great to see Mirkon again, perhaps as a bard. If yourescue him from the harpies inBG3, he writes a sweet short story about you. Maybe that moment could spark a lifelong passion for storytelling and a desire to protect others from similar dangers.
An older Mattis would make for afantastic rogue companion. Perhaps his scams finally start to pay off, or at least lead him somewhere unexpected. He might even be more compelling than Mol, especially if she takes a darker turn and becomes a full-fledged villain in the sequel toBaldur’s Gate 3.
