The puzzle for today’sConnectionsforgoes tradition, asking you to pair words based on actions rather than definitions. This puzzle was not too difficult for me, but it did present some challenges in the unique way it presented its categories throughout four different subjects. Without a few helpful hints, you might be left scrambling to find out what to put together, especially with a hidden theme in plain sight.

The theme of today’s puzzle isactions during Easter, likely to celebrate the holiday observed by some people during this time of the year. Similar tophrases in dailyWordlegames, the theme of today’sConnectionspuzzle relies on the player’s recognition of patterns. I had an easier time through my knowledge of Easter, but if you aren’t aware, you onlyhave four chances to make a mistakebefore losing.

Today’s Connections Category Hints

April 20 #679

When thinking about today’s puzzle, I started finding solutions when I thought about the process behind the actions of each phrase. For example, with the word DYE, I thought about the steps it would take to dye something from start to finish. This led me to the next words in that category of the puzzle, making the other pairings much easier to discover.

If you want to go all out with some of your clue-searching,you should look at the category namesto get some extra help. There are also spoilers for each category if you find yourself needing to solve a single category to finish up.

LOOK

PEEP

This part of the puzzle was probably the easiest for me, as LOOK and GLANCE were already close concepts to being with. The trick with this puzzle comes from PEEP, which you may accidentally associate with Peeps, a common candy to eat during Easter. However, recognizingPEEP is another word for lookand singling out GANDER for the same reason should lead you to the right solution.

RUBBER BANDS

SHIRT

The first part of the puzzle I solved was this category, as SHIRT and DYE can immediately be associated with tie-dying a shirt. This follows the theme of Easter since this activity is common during that holiday, but youhave to know the process for making a tie-die T-shirtto really get the rest of this puzzle. Anyone who has tie-died a shirt can tell you a BASIN and RUBBER BANDS are crucial for completing any festive gear.

JOKE

WHIP

This is a tricky part of the puzzle due to EGG, a word you might put with BUNNY or PEEP to follow the Easter theme. I struggled with this category before I put together WHIP and EGG on a whim, assuming it was a pairing based on whipping eggs for a meal. After this, I looked at the other words and quickly realized thatJOKE, WHIP, and CODE all stood out from their base definitions, which came together only through how they are broken or wielded.

HIP

SOCK

BUNNY is the most thematic word here, yet HIP and BAR don’t initially seem like words that pair with the mascot of the Easter holiday. Although it seemed unlikely, my strategy here was to put BAR and HIP together already due to how one might describe the other’s atmosphere. While doing this, I remembered that"Hop"is both an action and forms new phrases with words like HIP, BAR, BUNNY, and SOCK, putting the right pattern together for the answer.
