Trackerfans have seen the cast downsized twice now between seasons, which makes the existing dynamics between the remaining characters very important for season 3. Colter Shaw (Justin Hartley) spends most of his time in new towns on his own, so the network of allies he relies on is an important aspect of the series.

While most Tracker fans might think the dynamic between lead Colter Shaw and his go-to attorney Reenie Greene (Fiona Rene) is the most important, there’s another character dynamic that is even more so.Colter’s dynamic with season 2 addition Randy (Chris Lee) is hugely importantmoving forward.

Chris Lee’s Randy Was One Of The Bright Spots Of An Uneven Tracker Season 2

Chris Lee Made The Season Less Somber

Trackerseason 2 introduced Randy, the cousin to Bobby Exley (Eric Graise), in the middle of season 2. Randy popped up when Bobby had some “family stuff” to take care of, which was never explained, but the cousins have the same technical skill sets.

Randy became Colter’s “man behind the screen” for several episodes, and it appearsRandy will also fill that role heading intoTrackerseason 3. He also provided a breath of fresh air in the season, rather than making the show feel cluttered with too many supporting characters.

That is because Randy has a different sense of humor than the other characters on Colter’s team. He is able to break the tension with a joke or even simply his tone of voice while on the phone. He even completely rearranges Bobby’s workstation when filling in for him with Colter.

While Colter and Reenie might offer up plenty of banter with some unresolved romantic tension underneath, it’s a very different tone from that of Randy joking around with Colter on the phone or offering up explanations for Colter’s technological questions.Randy helped make the show feel just a little lighterin season 2.

That lightness is important for a procedural drama where there is a missing person every week. The subject matter can be very heavy, and while Randy proved himself more than capable of being serious, that lightness helped to make him a bright spot inTrackerseason 2 while the show played with different character dynamics and subgenres.

Randy Can Humanize Colter Shaw In Tracker Season 3

Randy Brings Out A Different Side Of Colter

When Colter is on a case, he is all business. While he sympathizes with family members who are willing to pay him to find their missing loved one, Colter remains very carefully controlled in his emotions. He does not let himself slip onTrackerother than around characters like Reenie, Randy, and his brother Russell (Jensen Ackles).

Any potential romance development or deepening of the relationship with Reenie is going to be on hold while she dates someone else. The storyline with Russell will likely be focused on themystery surrounding Ashton Shawand the rest of Colter’s family.

With the rest of Colter’s series regular allies, including Bobby, Velma (Abby McEnany), and Teddi (Robin Weigert), now gone inTrackerseason 3, that could allow Randy a larger role when it comes to helping Colter. It also means he is the character most likely to humanize Colter.

Only a few episodes into his recurring season 2 role, and Randy was out in the field with Colter, searching for his ex-girlfriend’s missing friend. In “Memories,” Randy and Colter actually work well together and have a lot of frank discussions Colter doesn’t have with anyone else.Colter might not open up about the one who got awayto Randy, but it feels like he will one day.

Randy and Colter already feel like more genuine friends after his short time on the show, something that seems in rare supply for Colter despite all of his allies. They can joke around together, but also get right into serious business without it feeling forced.

While Colter is cordial with most of his other associates, he is just that. Further developing Colter’s working relationship and friendship with Randy can help to further develop Colter inTrackerseason 3.
