During Ubisoft’s press conference at E3 2017, it became very clear that the company has its eyes set on being one of the biggest publishers for Nintendo’s newly introduced gaming console, Nintendo Switch. The biggest evidence of this reinvigorated allegiance is acrossover featuringRabbidsandSuper Mariowhich is being developed internally at Ubisoft and will be arriving exclusively for the aforementioned platform, but support didn’t end there – and it doesn’t appear to be letting up either.
During a recent earnings call with investors, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot claimed that the firm would be announcing more games for the Nintendo Switch “quite soon.” Although this an interesting bit of news to take in when considering the asset blitz that the company unleashed this past June in Los Angeles, California, the CEO failed to mention just what form these announcements would take.
Ubisoft has several major games in development that are set to arrive on Xbox One and PlayStation 4 in the near future, some of which may very well be considered for a port to the Nintendo platform if any announcements are indeed arriving soon. One of the more requested titles isSouth Park: The Fractured But Wholewhich was already confirmed to not be arriving on Switch, but plans may have since changed in the wake of fan demand and actual sales of the system.
A similar decision was recently made by 2K Games when it opted to set upWWE 2K18for a Switch release, so it’s not outside the realm of possibility that the firm may have reassessed its previous position onSouth Park. Additionally, games likeAssassin’s Creed OriginsandFar Cry 5could very well find a home on the system, but they’d require a bit of fine tuning to run on the less powerful platform.
Who knows, maybe reports ofBeyond Good and Evil 2being a timed exclusive for Switchhave some merit. Whatever the case may be, consumers will find out “quite soon.”
