Nintendo hosts a special Switch-themed Treehouse event after announcing the upcoming console’s price and release date. Watch along here and learn more about the launch titles.
When Nintendo planned two back-to-backSwitchevents for early January, many gamers assumed the first event would be very short and only consist of hardware details, price, and a release date. The assumption was that Nintendo would save all of the software goodies for today’s Treehouse event, but clearly that wasn’t the case. The company announced a handful of exciting new games for theNintendo Switch, includingSuper Mario OdysseyandSplatoon 2, in addition to lots of information about the hardware. That said, there is still a Treehouse Event happening this morning that is sure to bring even more news.
The Treehouse event will likely give a closer look at some of the games revealed Thursday night, but may also include some additional announcements. At this point, the Switch launch day titles are kind of slim pickings with bothSplatoon 2andSuper Mario Odysseyarriving months after launch (optimistically). It may seem dangerous for Nintendo to launch a console without a companionMariotitle, butZelda: Breath of the Wildwill be there on March 3to help motivate consumers to pick up the new hardware.

Gamers will be able to pick on theNintendo Switch on March 3 for $299if they are lucky enough to find one. If Nintendo’s previous console launches are any indication, it seems very likely that fans can expect this hardware to be in short supply for the first few months. Some retailers have opened pre-order sales, so locking in a purchase now may be the best path to playingBreath of the Wildon the Switch launch day.
