While playingStardew Valley, you might occasionally see a pop-up notification on your screen. With the1.6 update, we saw the addition of the “you have new ideas to sleep on” notification, but there’s another that’s been around for longer – “a train is passing through.”

This notification can happen on any day between the hours of 9 am and 6 pm. It’s always worth running up to the railroad because the train can often drop resources.

The trains ofStardew Valley

Various types of trains can pass through, and sadly, not all of them contain or drop resources. The most common type of train contains a variety of car types, such as passenger cars, resource cars, and even some cars with graffiti on them.

Other types of trains include:

You don’t need to be around as the train actually passes by to collect any possibly dropped resources, but you do need to collect them on the same day, as they will disappear overnight.

It’s also incredibly important to remember that standing in front of the train can damage you or even cause you to pass out, so that’s to be avoided. Attacking the train with tools or weapons will also cause a knockback damage effect.

What drops from the train inStardew Valley

As mentioned, the train may drop various resources. These are mostly just basic items, but the train is the only way to get the Leprechaun Shoes. This means you’ll need to keep an eye out for trains if you’ve got theLeprechaun Hatand are hoping to build on that look.

Here’s an example of the type of things that can drop from the train, although this is not an exhaustive list by far:
