One of the gaming industries worst kept secrets was officially shown off this past weekend at BlizzCon 2019. Following a series of leaks,Overwatch 2director Jeff Kaplan took to the big stage to finally reveal the first cinematic and gameplay from the upcoming game. While PvP will continue to be a big focus,Overwatch 2has a number ofnew features like a dedicated PvE modeand plans for handling new heroes.

In a recent interview, Kaplan revealed his plans for how the team is approaching new heroes forOverwatch 2. While he understands the fan excitement over new heroes, he cautions that the game likely won’t have 21 to pick from at launch as he says a number like that would be excessive and disruptive to the game.

While the roster may not be as expansive as its predecessor, Kaplan admits that he wants the characters that make the launch roster to be impactful. The BlizzCon trailer alreadyrevealed the mysterious hero Sojourn, a character that Kaplan still refuses to talk about largely due to the fact that she’s under development.

However, Kaplan continues to tease at leats one new hero that’ll be added to the live service apart fromOverwatch 2, which excludes the previously mentioned Sojourn. Many fans have begun to speculatethe next character as Echo, a previously rumored hero that makes an appearance in a recentOverwatchtrailer with McCree. The Omnic can also be seen in the BlizzCon 2019 cinematic, which makes her a strong candidate to join the current roster of heroes.

Overwatch 2is currently in development for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
