WhileOblivionhas been getting all the love with its recent remaster, andFallout 3is reportedly next, it feels likeThe Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowindhas been left by the wayside despite the immense cult following the game has amassed since its release all the way back in 2002. To many,Morrowindis the best title in the series thanks to its strange yet rich world-building, revolutionary mechanics, and complexity, which has been lost somewhat with recent titles. Thankfully,Morrowindhas not been abandoned by its community, even after twenty-three years since its initial release.

Thanks to being such a fan favorite, many mod authors are still working on the game despite its advanced age, yet these projects are not as popular as the ones that seek to bring the country of Morrowind to other titles.Skyrimhas been the go-to game to mod for a while and has been host to many impressive projects, such asEnderal: Forgotten Stories, and the massiveBeyond Skyrimprojects, one of which will take the Dragonborn to modern Morrowind. Still, one project will help bring excitement to Bethesda’s remastering phase:Skywind.

Elder Scrolls Skyrim Skywind Mod Morrowind Crossover Graphics Features Update 2022

Skywind Got A Promising Update From Its Modding Team

The Project’s End Point Is Finally In Sight

Skywindseeks to remake all ofMorrowindusingSkyrim’s engine, making the game more modern and accessible to modern audiences.A promising twenty-minute gameplay demo was recentlyuploaded to YouTube by the TESR Skywindchannel, andMorrowindhas never looked better. According to the video, all 2D art and writing are completed for the game, with almost all NPCs cast. The project is steadily moving along, a good sign considering that many modding projects of this size usually suffer from cancellation because of how large a commitment it is for teams often made up of volunteers.

Skywindis specifically forSkyrim: Special Editionon PC.

Still,Skywindhas largely managed to stave off these issues, and with the gameplay demo, it looks like the project won’t be one destined to be nothing but a dream, although there hasn’t been a release date yet.Chances are, it is closer to releasing than Bethesda’s next official remaster, rumored to beFallout 3, and won’t suffer being overshadowed by one of Bethesda’s projects. It doesn’t seem like Bethesda plans to do much withMorrowind, andSkywindis ensuring that modern-day gamers will get a chance to enjoy one of the classics that redefined the RPG genre.

Skywind Won’t Suffer The Same Problems As Skyblivion

There Are No Signs That A Morrowind Remaster Is Coming Anytime Soon

Skywindisn’t the only remake project made by fans ofSkyrim.Skyblivionseeks to bringObliviontoSkyrim’s engine and will release later this year, which has been an unfortunate experience for the team behind it afterOblivion Remasteredwas shadow-dropped. Unfortunate as it is,Skywindlikely won’t suffer the same fate, withFallout 3getting a remaster next. It should be expected thatSkywindwill come out before this, given how little information is available about theFallout 3remaster project, so the team won’t see their dreams crushed.

Morrowindis also a few years older thanOblivion, and its visuals look considerably more dated, soSkywindwill also benefit from getting a bigger graphical upgrade, relatively speaking. It will probably be hard for Bethesda to sneak anothershadow-drop after the stunt it pulled withOblivion, so if aMorrowindremaster does happen, at least theSkywindteam will get more of a heads-up, although time should be on theSkywindteam’s side. If the project is released in the next two years, it should be safe from any clashes with Bethesda.

Morrowind Is The Most Fascinating Elder Scrolls Game For Modern Fans To Visit

There Isn’t A Modern Version Of The Game To Visit

WhileSkyrimhas benefited from re-release after re-release andOblivionhas its shiny, new remaster, there isn’t a modern way to playMorrowindwithout considerable legwork, and this is a problem thatSkywindwill solve. Sure,DaggerfallandArenadon’t have modern alternatives either, butMorrowindis whenElder Scrollsfound its footing and started to become the IP it is today. It is also regarded as the best in the series by its cult fans, and appeals specifically to young adult fans of the series.

I am barely older thanMorrowind, but as someone who has played a ridiculous amount ofSkyrim, I have always been fascinated by the thirdElder Scrollstitle, especially because theDragonbornDLC is a love letter to it at times.Skywindcould be the perfect way to playThe Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowindwhen it does eventually come out and that’s what makes the project so exciting. The strangeness and mysticism of the game can be experienced without the aches and pains that come with its age.
