Wonder Boy Asha in Monster Worldis the newest entry in Sega’s long-runningWonder Boyseries coming to Nintendo Switch and PS4.Wonder Boy Asha in Monster Worldwas announced via IGN back in August, with the full reveal and announcement taking place later that week during Gamescom.
TheWonder Boyseries came back into the spotlight in 2016 withWonder Boy Returns, a remake of the originalWonder Boytitle released all the way back in 1986. Now, the fourth entry in the series following its return,Wonder Boy Asha in Monster World, is confirmed to be launching for PS4 and Switch sometime in 2021.

TheWonder Boyseries started in video arcades, later moving on to Sega consoles like the Master System and Mega Drive. Unfortunately, the series fell off afterWonder Boy 4released in 1994on the Sega Mega Drive. Now,Wonder Boy Asha in Monster Worldserves as a remake toWonder Boy 4, complete with totally revamped graphics among other new elements. Additionally, multiple members of the original development team are returning for this remake, including the creator of theWonder Boyseries, Ryuichi Nishizawa.
The modernWonder Boyremake titles found success on the PS4 in 2016. However, their eventual release on the Nintendo Switch was another boon for the series thanks to the Switch’s growing indie development scene. Last month,Sega confirmed it was interested in remakesand remasters for its various properties across different platforms. Hopefully,Wonder Boy Asha in Monster Worldis just one of many Sega properties that get the remake treatment throughout 2021 and beyond.
