Summary

World of Warcraftplayers that haven’t bought game time using real money since 2017 will soon be unable to buy subscription time with WoW Tokens. This restriction is being added as a part of the fight against gold farmers and botting inWorld of Warcraft.

WoW Tokens are consumableWorld of Warcraftitemsthat can be bought or sold for in-game gold, redeemed for a month of subscription time, or exchanged for a $15 balance on Battle.net. This sanctioned RMT vessel enables players to fuel their subscription or buy other products withWorld of Warcraftgold, or get gold with real money.

How are WoW Tokens Changing?

This change is primarily being implemented to combat botting inWorld of Warcraft.WoW Tokens have risen to record high pricesin countries across the world with no signs of slowing down. By implementing this change, burner accounts that use bots to farm gold with the intention of selling it will be unable to fuel their RMT schemes without a bigger monetary investment, which becomes a heavier tax if those accounts are later banned. Ideally, this small change will be able to crack down on bots and lower WoW Token prices.

At the end of the day, the averageWorld of Warcraftplayer shouldn’t be too worried about this new WoW Token restriction, as it won’t affect them. Fueling a subscription with only WoW Tokens is extremely expensive, and only players who areexperts at making gold inWorld of Warcraftcould pull it off. However, if one managed to do so for the last six years, hopefully buying a single month of subscription time won’t break their bank too much this holiday season.
