After announcing recently that the nextWorld of Warcraftpatchwill return the game to its “vanilla” state from 2006, and leading up to the highly anticipated release of the game’s next expansion, Blizzard is now also allowingWorld of Warcraftfans to play the game for free this weekend only. Starting today, up until June 24, the most-played MMO in the world will be playable without the monthly subscription fee of $15.
World of Warcraftis not only free to play this weekend, but Blizzard will also allow players who have not played in a long time to play all the expansions leading up to the most recent expansion,Legion, released in 2015. Players who do not own any recent expansions will therefore find thatWarlords of Draenoris also available during the free play weekend, and players can get up to speed witheverything that has happened in Azerothup until now no matter what realm you are in, what character you have or what level your character is.
Of course, the seventhWorld of Warcraftexpansion,Battle for Azeroth, will very soon be on its way to the masses, so it is well worth at least attempting to get back up to speed during the free play weekend. TheBattle for Azerothreleasedate is a bit more than a month away, so Blizzard may be allowing players to play for free this weekend to promote the game before the next expansion’s release.
After Sunday, June 24 though, players who want to keep on playingWorld of Warcraftwill once more need to purchase a monthly game token for $15. The free play weekend is a great opportunity to get back into the game before playing the new expansion though, especially for players who do not feel like paying the monthly subscription fee right now.
World of Warcraftis available now on PC, with theBattle for Azerothexpansion launching August 14.
