As you get started inWuchang: Fallen Feathers, the Impetus Repository skill trees can feel overwhelming at first, and figuring out the perfect build might seem daunting. One of the most straightforward builds you can opt for inWuchangis a Flame build, largely because you will gradually get better and better weapon options as you progress through to the endgame, while still being able to stick with the Flame Bone Needle.
Wuchang: Fallen Feathersis packed full ofSekiro-style boss fightsthat will require players to experiment with different builds and playstyles. A Flame build featuring the Longsword as your primary weapon is a great place to start, and it should help you get oriented with the game’s more complex mechanics. That said, this build really kicks online when you acquire the Flamebringer Longsword, and it will get progressively more complex as you enter the later stages of the game.
Best Skills For A Flame Build In Wuchang: Fallen Feathers
The Fiery Embers Spell Enhancement Is Essential For A Flame Build
While you can adjust your weapon loadouts throughout the game and still maintain a Flame-based strategy, there are a few essential Flame skills in the Impetus Repository that make this build extremely effective. Firstly, you’ll want to have the Fiery Embers node selectedin the non-weapon-based skill tree, which will increase Burn buildup caused by spells.
In terms of weapon skills, there are two Disciplines that focus on Flame attributes, one in the Longsword tree and one in the Axe tree. The Longsword Discipline I’d recommend having equipped at all times on your weapon of choice (ideally Flamebringer) is Crescent Moon. Specifically, its Variant II upgrade inflicts Burn buildup when used with Skyborn Might and when you are above 90% Madness.
The second weapon Discipline you can equip for Burn and Flame effects is theColossal Smash Discipline and its Variant I,which creates a morass of red mercury that can ignite into a massive explosion and cause Burn buildup as well. Outside these core Discipline nodes and the Fiery Embers node, you can invest your skill points as you see fit, particularly focusing on attributes that enhance weapon damage.
For a Longsword and Axe setup inWuchang: Fallen Feathers, which is my top recommendation for a Flame build, this meansinvesting heavily in Strength and Agility.Because you’ll be using the Echo of Dhutanga and Burning Flames spells, Magic is also recommended, but I would hold off on deep Magic investment until later on. Since Echo of Dhutanga will be a major feature early on, you should also unlock the Fury of the Skyborn node as well, which decreases its Skyborn Might cost.
Best Weapons, Gear, & Spells For A Flame Build
Flame Weapons Include Flamebringer, Scorn Greataxe, Cinder Dragoncoil, & The Gunpowder Spear
While you’ll get far more weapons inWuchang: Fallen Feathersthan in games likeFirst Berserker: Khazan, you won’t be getting an overabundance of options throughout the game, with less than a handful of each weapon type in total. In many ways, this makes unlocking each weapon more significant.
When it comes to Flame-based weapons, you’re looking for those with the passive effect that buffs Fire Temperance. These include theFlamebringer Longsword, the Scorn Greataxe, and the Cinder Dragoncoil axe.
Because you’ll be using the Flame Bone Needle for Temperance effect, any weapon can be imbued with Flame inWuchang: Fallen Feathers.
These Flame axes won’t be unlocked until late-game, but even equipping the standard Halberd with the Colossal Smash Discipline will prove effective.Another great weapon for a Flame build is the Gunpowder Spear, which doesn’t have a passive Fire Temperance buff but does have the Flame Strike skill and will benefit from Agility and Strength scaling as well.
The Flame Bone Needle Is The Centerpiece Of The Flame Build
The obvious piece of gear you’ll want slotted for this build is the Flame Bone Needle, which you’ll unlock very early on. This will allow you toadd Fire damage and Burn buildup to any weapon of your choosing, though it will work much more effectively on those weapons with the passive Flame Temperance buff.
The Flame spells for this build, Burning Flames and Echo of Dhutanga, are available early on.Each of these is great for enhancing Burn buildup, and the Echo of Dhutanga doubles as an easy Obliterate opportunity if you hit an enemy from behind. This spell is especially effective against theMistress Of The Night Huang Yanboss in Cloudspire.
There are various throwable items that can inflict Burn as well, including Fire Pots and Fiery Flying Daggers.
For Pendants, the Demon Pendant willincrease Fire damage at the cost of Physical damage, which is worth it if you are using a Flame-specific weapon but less so if you aren’t. Pendants that increase spell damage are also useful, such as the Crane Pendant, but the Coiled Dragon Pendant is a pretty universally useful Pendant for any build, increasing the power of weapon skills.
Finally, in terms of Benedictions, eventually you’ll come acrossSheng - Burning Might, Fa - Burning Ignition, Fa - Combo Ignition, and Ta - Blazing Burn, among other Flame-based Benediction stones that enhance your weapon effects. While none of these have a set effect, they are well worth slotting for their individual buffs.
Best Strategy For A Flame Build In Wuchang
Not Every Boss Will Be Weak To Flame
While this Flame build will be effective for the majority of the game, there will be specific bosses where it is less effective. For those bosses, you may want to consider switching up your build to something that they are less resistant to. That said,Flame damage will be useful against the majority of bosses and lesser enemiesthroughout the game, especially throughout the Cloudspire region.
The Flame build is all about dealing Fire damage and inflicting Burn buildup, which will deal a large instance of damage once the Burn meter is filled. For the Longsword and Axe combo, I recommend inflicting Burn on an enemy first and then quick-switching and hitting them with a Colossal Smash to cause an explosion of Fire underneath them. It’s a simple yet highly effective strategy forWuchang: Fallen Feathers, and it’s one that will literally melt most bosses faster than many other builds.
