This X-Men hero is so dangerous that even his transformed debut results in the permanent death of two other heroes, with even the scientists who transformed him admitting,“We have created our own death sentence.”

InUltimate Wolverine #8- from Chris Condon, Alessandro Cappuccio, Bryan Valenza and Cory Petit - the team attempt to rescue Warren Worthington, thefounding X-Men hero known as Angel. However, the villainous Directorate X have turned him into a monstrous creature. Warren has four wings made of bladed feathers and a black leather suit with wires plugged directly into his brain.
When Wolverine’s team arrive, Angel has slaughtered the facility’s scientists, having become unstable due to the horrifying experiments performed on his body.Even compared to Wolverine, Angel’s new form is incredibly vicious and deadly, leading to a high body count as the team try to bring him back home safely.

The X-Men Want Their Friend Back, But It Doesn’t Seem Possible
Ultimate Wolverineis set in Earth-6160, a timeline where the villainousMaker prevented the origins of any herowho might have stood against him. To prevent the X-Men becoming a problem, the Maker corrupted Colossus and Magik, turning their territory into a gulag for mutants from around the world. Wolverine’s resistance have been trying to fight back against Colossus and his Directorate X, uncovering horrifying fates for iconic heroes including Jean Grey and Charles Xavier.
However, they haven’t yet faced anything as deadly as Angel, whose bladed fatherskill fellow founding hero Beast and resistance fighter Abigail Brand. TheUltimate Universe imprint is knownfor its lasting deaths, so it’s likely that these two are gone for good. It’s no wonder that Wolverine describes Angel as"death on wings", wondering if he even deserves saving after the dozens of lives he’s already taken.
While the team agree to take Angel back to their base and attempt to rehabilitate him, the issue ends with an ominous report from within Directorate X. The report states that unlike Logan, Warren’s mind was too fragile for what Directorate X did to him, and states the intent to call off further study of his new form. With even the villains labeling Angel too dangerous to unleash, Wolverine’s team may have chosen an impossible task in trying to reawaken this foundingX-Menhero’s heroism after he’s been permanently transformed into a living weapon.
