Project xCloudhas been in development by Microsoft for some time now, and fans have been eager to be among the first to try it. Now players will have an opportunity to do just that, as the service is opening for a public preview.
Project xCloudis Microsoft’s take on streaming gaming. It will allow players to stream Xbox games to their mobile devices, including phones and tablets. Although the service isn’t ready for prime-time just yet, Microsoft is taking the opportunity to ask fans and players for their input with this preview.

To participate, players have to meet a few guidelines. Interested gamers will need to have an Android device running 6.0 or higher with Bluetooth 4.0 and a Bluetooth-enabled Xbox One wireless controller in order to play. Players who don’t initially get into the preview may have luck later on, as the preview will be continuously accepting new users.
To start, the service will only have a few titles to play, includingGears 5,Halo 5: Guardians,Killer Instinct, andSea of Thieves. Players will not need to purchase or spend money on any of these games to test them. Microsoft has also promised to expand the service to include new games as the preview continues on. When the service eventually launches, it will allow players toaccess all digital Xbox One games, which is no small feat.
Streaming looks to be the future of the gaming industry, with a number of different companies all either developing or already premiering game streaming services. Microsoft previously stated that it wanted to be theNetflix of gaming, allowing players to effectively pay a flat fee to rent titles and stream them on their Xbox One or mobile devices. However, the service will be up against a considerable number of contenders. It remains to be seen which will come out on top, especially sinceGoogle Stadiais one of the competitors joining the streaming market.
