Battlefieldhas been in a rough spot lately, but a massive discount onBattlefield 1could be the perfect way to enjoy the series at its best. WhileBattlefield 2042and especiallyBattlefield 5have their strengths here and there, they don’t fully deliver on whatBattlefieldfans tend to expect. TheupcomingBattlefield 6is providing more to be cautiously optimistic about, but you could also just play a game that’s already proven itself to be great.

Thanks to theSteamSummer Sale,Battlefield 1: Revolutionis currently available for $1.99, a 95% discount from its $39.99 MSRP. Contrary to its name,Battlefield 1is the tenth installment in the series, depending on how you count it, borrowing its titular number from the World War I setting. TheRevolutionedition currently available on Steam also includes DLC in the package, sweetening an already attractive deal.

Battlefield 1 Is One Of The Best Battlefield Games

The Last True Winner In The Franchise

Opinions will differ on what the verybestBattlefieldgamesare, butBattlefield 1is the last that tends to enter that discussion. While its presentation of World War I isn’t committed to total accuracy, it does lean into much of the setting’s potential. Zeppelins crashing and burning aren’t a sight you’ll see in most FPS games, and an arsenal of vintage weapons is a nice change of pace from the mid-century to modern firearms that dominate the market.

Battlefield 1’s greatest accomplishment is ultimately its sense of immersion, something that EA and DICE havestruggled to replicate inBattlefieldsince. The complex maps, large-scale battles, and sheer sound and fury of combat are easy to get sucked into, helped along by mechanics that fundamentally feel good and make immediate sense.Battlefieldveterans can still have gripes with the game, butit’s both a solid franchise entry point and one that long-time players often enjoy.

A Great Game For Less Than A Coffee

At any rate, it’s hard to complain about a $1.99 price point for the game, and it’s more worthy of your dollars than the similar discounts forBattlefield 5,2042,andHardline.If you’ve already gotBattlefield 1or don’t care for the setting,Battlefield 3and4are on the same discount, and both games might be even more beloved.

It’s also worth noting that someBattlefieldgames are on sale inPlayStation’s July Savings sale, so you can pick upBattlefield 1for a slightly more expensive $5.99 there. Even at that price, you’re unlikely to be disappointed, and if you can nab it on Steam, so much the better.
